August Focus: Intentions

My focus for this August will be to accomplish the goals I have set for myself. Setting my intentions on what I want to achieve this upcoming fall.  I am job hunting, detoxing my mind and my body, and being intentional in all that I do. I recently purchased the book “Whole Beauty” by Shiva Rose. The book talks a lot about daily routines and how people tend to rush through their morning or nighttime routines, these routines can easily be turned into daily rituals that promote self-love and self-care. Throughout this month I would love to practice creating these daily rituals that strengthen my mind, body, and soul. I am starting out August with a fresh mindset and will continue to practice good and positive intentions in all that I do.

The first goal I have set for myself is a 10 day detox:

No sugar, dairy, grains, or alcohol.

April Focus: Change

I have seen many brands and blogs embrace something specific each month and I began to do this in my own life as well. I have been thinking about what I want my focus to be this April and came across some inspiration from College Fashionista. I decided to use their focus as my own. Change. So many people are afraid of change including myself. I tend to fall into patterns that feel comfortable and feel safe staying there.  This month I am challenging myself (and you all) to embrace the change this season.

With graduation right around the corner I am getting ready to start a new chapter in my life. I refuse to let myself be afraid of the unknown future and this month I am going to create new positive habits that I will be able to carry into the rest of the year. I think that it is so important to constantly be bettering yourself, whatever that might look like. I am going to take this Spring season of rebirth and make it an opportunity to grow physically and mentally.

Instead of freaking out, embrace these moments to turn all those dreams and little “somedays” into “todays.” Explore a new activity. Shed your fear and bust out of your proverbial shell. Make plans for the future. Grow and blossom.

In February, my boyfriend and I took a weekend trip to Catalina Island.  If you are looking for an easy, fun, and semi local vacation spot, Catalina is the place to go! We went mini golfing, hiked a trail to sky summit, and went to awesome restaurants right on the water. Everything on the island is walking distance so every hotel is in a good location. It was such a relaxing, pleasant, and enjoyable trip.  I would recommend this mini vacation to any couple, group of friends, or family.

Here’s where we bought our boat tickets:  Catalina Express

One year ago I was living in Maynooth, Ireland, a small town about 30 minutes outside of Dublin. Studying abroad taught me so much about myself and allowed me to grow in areas of my life that have shaped who I am today. I had the privilege of traveling to nine countries in my four months abroad: Brussels-Belguim, London-England, Rome-Italy, Florence-Italy, Venice-Italy, Berlin-Germany, Prague-Czech Republic, Krakow-Poland, Budapest-Hungry, Paris-France, Cork-Ireland, Galloway-Ireland, Dublin-Ireland.

The biggest lessons that I learned through studying abroad are:

  1. Life is too short to not take the opportunities that are available to you. Even if something scares you or is out of your comfort zone, DO IT.
  2. There is so much more to the world than the small bubble you live in most of your life, and I think it is so important to go discover what the world has to offer you.
  3. Zara is cheaper in Europe 😉 (my friends and I seemed to end up in Zara in every country we visited).
  4. Time is the most precious thing we have. Do not waste any time.
  5. Every decision you make in life will either open doors for you or close them. Make the decisions that allow you to grow in all areas of your life.
  6. Take in every moment that makes you feel alive. These are the moments that you will remember for the rest of your life.

To the people who made my trip incredible and unforgettable. My travel buddies, roomies, and forever friends Marie, Molly, Monica, Emily, Kat and Nina thank you for making my time abroad so special. You all have brought so much joy into my life and I am forever grateful for our time abroad together!
